    This study deals with the conversion of Guarany children in the missions of Jesuits located in Rio da Prata in South América, in the seventeenth century. The first chapter looks at the De Angelis documents to analyze what the Jesuits thought of the children when they came to America. The second chapter shows the Jesuit’s depictions of the Guarany children portrayed as “angels”. The children were considered as the promise of future Christianity. However, the third chapter brings another image of the children, namely as “little devils”.

    O estudo versa sobre a conversão das crianças guarani das Reduções Jesuíticas da Bacia Platina no século XVII. Analisando os documentos que compõem a Coleção De Angelis, busca-se, no primeiro capítulo, demonstrar a concepção de infância que permeava os olhares jesuíticos ao desembaraçar na América. No segundo capítulo, analisa-se a imagem angelical construída sobre as crianças guarani. Nesse sentido, essas crianças, consideradas anjos, também passam a ser vistas como o futuro do cristianismo. Por outro lado, o terceiro e último evidencia as dificuldades de conversão protagonizadas por esses pequenos rebeldes registrados pelos jesuítas.
