  • Resumen
    • The Foundation for Urban and Regional Studies (or FURS, as it is known) is a charity founded to promote research and scholarship in the urban and regional studies field. Under English law charitable activities are not liable to income tax. FURS was set up in 1595 and since then has had four main areas of activity. It funds studentships, research grants and travel grants, and holds an international essay competition in collaboration with the International Journal of Urban and Regional Research and Blackwell Publishing of Oxford. The studentships are awarded competitively each year and are currently worth £8,500 per year. They are available to students just starting their studies or to those who have already started. For studentships priority is given to applicants from developing countries but for research grants there is no restriction on the country of origin of applicants. Recent recipients of studentships have been from Argentina, Cameroon, Chile, China, India, Jamaica, Nepal, South Africa, Turkey, Uruguay and Zambia.
