This article shifts the discourse on globalization and world cities from the commonplaceand dominant foci on finance and advanced producer services to logistics anddistribution, handmaidens of world trade. It focuses on one company (UPS Airlines) andone city (Louisville, Kentucky) in a case study that shows how local economicdevelopment efforts combined with expansion of air-cargo delivery services in thecontext of globalization to transform Louisville into a distributive world city.
