In this article the author discusses urban studies theorist Richard Florida's creative class theory regarding social classes and economic development in urban areas. The author analyzes data relating to occupational groups in Germany and is critical of Florida's claim that creative professionals impact the economic development of urban areas. The role of the dealer class of creative professionals in regional development and the importance of socio-cultural factors in predicting regional success are also included.
