The article discusses the social polarization of certain ethnic or socioeconomic groups in the Asian world cities of Hong Kong, China, Taipei, Taiwan, Seoul, South Korea, and Singapore. The author examines the trend on professionalization in these cities, noting the impact labor changes have on groups of native business elites and low-skilled immigrant workers. The effect of anti-centralizing movements and the political tensions caused by social and political polarization in these cities is also addressed.
