  • Resumen
    • Roi Maor at Tel Aviv University in Israel and his colleagues compiled the lifestyles of 2415 living mammals. They aligned the lifesyle with the mammal family tree to find the likely activity patterns of extinct mammals: if two related mammals are nocturnal, their common ancestor probably was too. Moar found diurnality appeared 65.8 million years ago-a few hundred thousand years after the dinosaur extinction 66 million years ago. That supports the nocturnal bottleneck hypothesis: the dinosaur extinction opened up new niches for mammals, particularly daytime foraging.
