    Introducción. Este artículo presenta un breve balance histórico de las diversas acciones que despertó la lucha contra la tuberculosis entre 1939, cuando se creó el Comité Nacional de Lucha contra la Tuberculosis, y el inicio de la década de 1950, cuando la quimioterapia, la vacunación BCG y los antibióticos modificaron las estrategias para prevenir y curar esa enfermedad. Se destaca la importancia concedida a la cooperación social, para lo cual se examina por qué se consideró que a través de la emisión de los timbres antituberculosos o ‘timbres rojos’ sería posible financiar la campaña y crear conciencia entre el público sobre la enfermedad

    Introduction. This article presents a brief historical overview of the different activities that the containment of TB brought about between 1939, when the National Committee Against Tuberculosis was created, and the beginning of the 1950s, when chemotherapy, BCG vaccination and antibiotics modified the preventive and curative strategies against that disease. The importance conceded to social collaboration will also be examined, addressing why the emission of red stamps or tuberculosis seals was regarded as a mean through which it would be possible to finance the campaign and to create awareness among the public of that disease.
