    The offer of educational services in Brazil has grown dramatically in recent years, especially in the segment of Basic Education. The aim of this study is to identify phenomena related to generation costs of a basic education school in Porto Velho relating it to the importance of knowledge as a strategic management tool. This research is characterized as being applied nature with a qualitative approach with descriptive purposes resulting in a case study, having as object of study the school Educational RML LTDA Center in the city of Porto Velho, and as time horizon the first half 2015, the school has almost 400 active students, divided into segments, Nursery, Pre-school, elementary school, elementary school and II High School. Data analysis shows the complex cost structure of a school and what are the direct and indirect costs of the institution. The reporting of expenses and income for the first half of 2015 the institution were analyzed. Through the data collected was possible to know the per capita monthly fee per segment, sustainability, school break-even point and the importance of these indicators for the same, it was also possible to verify the relevance of the costs of tool and its important role in the making of decision, also showed that the analyzed company's cost structure is deficient for the organization. It is observed that in the period under review the company did not obtain significant profits.

    A oferta de serviços educacionais no Brasil tem crescido vertiginosamente nos últimos anos, sobretudo no segmento da Educação Básica. O objetivo deste estudo é identificar os fenômenos relativos à geração de custos em uma Escola de Educação básica em Porto Velho relacionando-a com a importância deste conhecimento como ferramenta de gestão estratégica. A presente pesquisa se caracteriza como sendo de natureza aplicada, com abordagem qualitativa, com fins descritivos resultando em um estudo de caso, tendo como objeto de estudo a escola Centro Educacional RML LTDA, no município de Porto Velho, e como horizonte temporal o primeiro semestre de 2015, a escola possui quase 400 alunos ativos, divididos nos segmentos, Creche, Pré-escola, Ensino Fundamental I, Ensino Fundamental II e Ensino Médio. A análise dos dados mostra a complexa estrutura de custos de uma escola e quais são os custos diretos e indiretos da instituição.

    Foram analisados os relatórios de despesas e receitas do primeiro semestre de 2015 da instituição. Através dos dados levantados foi possível conhecer a mensalidade per capita por segmento, a sustentabilidade, ponto de equilíbrio da escola e a importância destes indicadores para a mesma, foi possível ainda verificar a relevância da ferramenta de Custos e seu importantíssimo papel no processo de tomada de decisão, mostrou ainda que a estrutura de custos da empresa analisada é deficitária para a organização.
