    Este artículo propone un acercamiento poco convencional al tema de la élite política y las estructuras internas de poder en Irán. Basado en los autores más influyentes de la teoría crítica, el texto trata de explicar las ideas detrás de la revolución islámica, el carácter del Estado y la lógica que nutre las clases dominantes. Después de un breve repaso del contexto económico de esta república rica en petróleo, trazaremos las directrices fundamentales de una sociedad persa que se debate entre la acción política y una clara alienación de las élites religiosas. Finalmente esbozaremos un «¿Quién es quién?» de las relaciones geopolíticas de Irán con especial atención a los conflictos actuales en Oriente Medio y cómo estos están transformando a las élites e incluso desplazando los centros globales de poder.

    This article proposes a non-conventional approach to the issue of political elites and the internal structures of power in Iran. Based on some influential authors from critical theory, the text explains the ideas behind the Islamic Revolution, the nature of the state and the rationale nurturing the ruling class. After a brief inquire into the current economic context of this oil-rich republic, we will sketch the main features of the Persian society which struggles between political agency and an acute alienation from the religious authorities. Finally, we will attempt a “who’s who?” in the geopolitical relations of the IRI with a special focus on how the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East are shaping the elites and perhaps even shifting the global centers of power.
