    La mastitis se define como una inflamación aguda del tejido conjuntivo interlobular dentro de la glándula mamaria con una incidencia del 10%. En España la causa médica más importante en el abandono de la LM es la mastitis. La respuesta del sistema inmunitario del hospedador y su interacción con la cepa bacteriana que causa la infección, la administración de antibióticos sin una base racional son los dos factores que más predisponen a la aparición de mastitis. El tratamiento para la mastitis infecciosa debería iniciarse tras haber realizado un análisis microbiológico y continuando con la lactancia materna.

    Mastitis is defined as an acute inflammation of interlobular connective tissue in the mammary gland with an incidence of 10%. In Spain the most important in the abandonment of the LM mastitis.La medical cause is the response of the host immune system and its interaction with the bacterial strain causing the infection, administration of antibiotics without a rational basis are the two factors most predispose to mastitis. Treatment for infectious mastitis should start after making a microbiological analysis and continuing with breastfeeding.
