    El presente texto presenta un análisis de una iniciativa oficial —estatal—, que hasta el momento no ha sido muy considerada por los historiadores, en el marco de la formación del Estado colombiano en el siglo XX. Se trata del proyecto de elaboración de obras de Geografía Económica, a cargo de la Contraloría General de la República, con la idea de que fueran un instrumento de sus políticas nacionales, regionales y sectoriales, y una forma de difundir de manera pública un tipo de conocimientos nuevos sobre el país y sus recursos. El examen del proyecto, que es el objeto directo de análisis del texto, deja la idea de un Estado que luchaba por dejar atrás un siglo XIX excesivamente político y partidista, y que trataba de orientarse por un conocimiento técnico, producido por técnicos y expertos a su servicio, que no tuviera como referente primero a la política partidista, y que fuera más bien un instrumento del progreso material y social.

    This paper analyses an official —state-led— initiative, mostly ignored by historians until today, in the context of the Colombian nation-building process during the XX century. This initiative consisted in the elaboration of texts of Economic Geography by the Republic’s Office of the General Comptroller. Its purpose was to use these texts as tools to design national, regional, and sectorial policies, as well as to publicly disseminate a new kind of knowledge about the country and its resources. The examination of this project, which is the direct object of analysis in this article, shows a State that is struggling to leave behind an excessively partisan and political XIX century, while trying to guide itself by a body of technical knowledge. Such knowledge, produced by technicians and experts at the State’s service, tried to put aside partisan politics as its prime referent, and rather serve as an instrument of material and social progress.
