  • The humble neutron could be hiding a deep, dark secret. A puzzling discrepancy in the lifetime of the particle maybe solved if neutrons sometimes decay into dark matter, the stuff purported to make up most of the missing mass of the universe. Two distinct experiments produce different answers for the lifespan of a neutron. In the "beam experiment", the neutron morphs into a proton in 888 seconds, via a process called beta decay
