Conociendo el contexto histórico donde se desenvuelve J.H.Pilates, se comprenderá que la historia de la educación físico-deportiva, ha ignorado al hombre que, sin embargo, ha conseguido una de las mayores universalizaciones y puesta en práctica de un sistema o método de entrenamiento deportivo. El éxito de su metodología, autodenominada “contrología”, (hace casi un siglo en EEUU y décadas más tarde en Europa) parece que no ha sido, sin embargo, suficiente para incluirlo en los modernos manuales de historia y reconocerle sus grandes logros, junto a los clásicos.
Joseph Hubertus Pilates fue coetáneo de un gran número de autores a los que se suele denominar como “creadores de la educación físico-deportiva”. Sin embargo, ninguna de sus enseñanzas o métodos, alcanzó la popularidad de la propuesta por J. H. Pilates.

Knowing the historical context where J.H.Pilates is working, there will be understood that the man has been ignored by the history of the physical - sports education, nevertheless, it has obtained one of the major influential world and has put in practice a system or method of sports training.
The success of this methodology, designated "contrology", (almost one century ago in the USA and decades later in Europe) seems that it has not been, sufficient to include it in the modern manuals of history and to recognize their big achievements, together with the classic ones.
Joseph Hubertus Pilates was a contemporary of a great number of authors who are usually called as "creators of the physical - sports education ".
Nevertheless, none of their educations or methods reached the popularity of J.
H. Pilates’ proposal.
