El artículo analiza la idea de nación de José Ortega y Gasset basándose en el concepto de self-government. Con este objetivo, compara su pensamiento con el de Gumersindo de Azcárate, tratando de mostrar la existencia de una tradición de nacionalismo liberal que integra a los dos.
La tesis es que desde la noción de autonomía, Ortega trata de dar solución a un problema con el que el liberalismo ha tenido que lidiar desde sus orígenes: la tensión existente entre las categorías de individuo y nación.
The paper aims to study Ortega y Gassets idea of the nation based on the concept of selfgovernment.
Thus, we compare his thought with that of Gumersindo de Azcárate, in order to demonstrate the existence of a tradition of liberal nationalism which includes both of them.
The thesis is that, based on the notion of self-government, Ortega tries to resolve a problem with which the liberalism has had to deal since its origins: the tension between the ideas of the individual and the nation.
