    El descuartizamiento criminal es un gesto relativamente infrecuente en nuestra sociedad actual; y obedece en general a la necesidad de ocultamiento de cuerpo de la víctima; en la presente comunicación se realiza una bre ve revisión histó rica del desmembramiento , una actualización de su clasificació n de acuerdo a los nuevos escenarios donde aparecen cuerpos desmembrados.

    Se enfatiza en el estudio del lugar del hallazgo y su procesamiento, el estudio medico legal del cad áver, y fundamentalmente en las marcas en el hueso para determinar el tipo de herramienta utilizado en el descuartizamiento.

    Se ilustra la presente comunicación con un caso real, y con experimentació n de herra mientas de corte y las caracterí sticas de las marcas que dejan sobre hueso fresco de vaca.

    Se enumeran los principales puntos a evaluar en el estudio medico legal del descuar tizamiento criminal en el lugar del hallazgo y en la autopsia

    Criminal dismemberment is a relatively infrequent gesture in our current society; and it obeys in general to the need of concealment of the victim's body; In the present communication a brief historical review of the dismemberment is made, an upd ate of its classification according to the new scenarios where disme mbered bodies appear.

    Emphasis is placed on the study of the crime scene and its processing, the medico legal study of the cadaver, and mainly, on the marks in the bone to determine the type of tool used in the dismemberment.

    The present communication is i llustrated with a real case, and with experimentation of cutting tools and the characteristics of the marks that they leave on fresh cow bone.

    The main points to evaluate in the legal medical study of the criminal dismemberment in the place of the finding and in the autopsy are listed.
