Resumen de Escolas de artes e ofícios mecânicos em minas gerais em fins do império

This article is about mechanical crafts teaching schools in Minas Gerais in the last decades of the Brazilian Empire, during the growing discussion about the need for professional education in the province and in the country. Analyzes first effective initiatives aimed at industrial-manufacturing education installed in Minas from the late 1870 - Institutes of Leaners Craftsmen and Lyceum of Arts and Crafts of Serro and Ouro Preto - as well as the discussion of Minas policies and intellectual elites around the issue. It is our goal to understand how and why these schools became part of the agenda for discussion of Minas elites, what expectations and representations have been created around them, who were the people involved in this process as well as some aspects of the organization of schools teaching crafts, its relationship with the state and with the Minas society.

Este artigo trata das escolas de ensino de ofícios mecânicos em Minas Gerais nas últimas décadas do Império, período em que cresce a discussão sobre a necessidade do ensino profissional não só na Província como no País. Analisa as primeiras iniciativas efetivas direcionadas ao ensino industrial-manufatureiro, instaladas em Minas a partir de fins da década de 1870 – os Institutos de Educandos Artífices e os Liceus de Artes e Ofícios do Serro e de Ouro Preto –, bem como a discussão das elites políticas e intelectuais mineiras em torno da questão. É nosso objetivo compreender como e porque essas escolas passaram a fazer parte da pauta de discussão das elites mineiras, quais as expectativas e representações se criaram em torno delas, quais os sujeitos envolvidos nesse processo bem como alguns aspectos da organização das escolas de ensino de ofícios, sua relação com o Estado e com a sociedade mineira.
