Andrés Bello es el más importante gramático y lingüista hispanoamericano del siglo XIX.
En su obra destaca la necesaria unidad del español, pero también la importancia de la variación fecunda en el uso del sistema. De esta manera, se nos presenta como un gran renovador de los estudios lingüísticos y gramaticales hispánicos que, a la vez, se constituye en el impulsor de una variante sociocultural y lingüística en el interior de la unidad hispánica.

Andrés Bello (1791-1865) is the most important Spanish-American grammarian of the 19th century. In this work, he appears to us, apart from his eminent position of renewer of the study of Spanish grammar, as the iniciator of the inmense task which consist of the development of a socio-cultural and linguistic variant within the Spanish unity.
