Resumen de Consideraciones sobre el yeísmo en la enseñanza del español

  Es habitual en los manuales de enseñanza media destinados a la didáctica de la lengua española (materna) presentar el fonema palatal lateral f\/ inserto en el sistema fonológico y considerar el yeísmo como un fenómeno dialectal extendido en ciertas zonas.

  En el presente trabajo, por una parte, se cuestiona tal proceder, basándose en el hecho de que el yeísmo parece estar superando el marco de una tendencia dialectal más; por otra, se hace una serie de propuestas con vistas a la enseñanza de la lengua española, a saber: a) el yeísmo no debe presentarse como un "vicio" o un "vulgarismo", a tenor de su estimación social; b) teniendo en cuenta su extensión geográfica, no procede calificar de andalucismo o americanismo al fenómeno yeísta, pues son varios e independientes entre sí los focos de yeísmo existentes en el ámbito hispano; c) por otra parte, el yeísmo no debe ser valorado como un rasgo dialectal, sino que debe aparecer junto con la distinción lyl-iy como parte de la norma actual; y d) finalmente, en la enseñanza práctica no debe recomendarse la distinción fonética a los hablantes yeístas

  In general, textbooks of secondary education designed to teach Spanish to native speakers present the palatal-lateral phoneme iy as part of the phonological system and consider the yeísmo to be a phenomenon of certain regional dialects. This article, on the one hand, puts into question this approach, because it seems that the yeísmo is going beyond the limits of an ordinary dialectal phenomenon. On the other hand, the author makes the following proposals as to the teaching of the Spanish language: a) in view of the standing gained by the yeísmo it should no larger be presented as bad habit or vulgar use; b) talking into consideration its geographical extension, the yeísmo can not be regarded as an Andalucism or Americanism, because in the Spanish-speaking world there exist various regions where the yeísmo is common use and which are independent from each other; c) the yeísmo should not be regarded as a feature of only certain dialects, but it should be presented as an alternative to the lyl-iy opposition and as being part of modern use; d) finally, those students whose pronunciation corresponds to the yeísmo should not be urged to make the distinction between /y/ and /1/.
