      The player acts as an active element in digital entertainment. We present the evolution of the hardware and the software in the video games industry troughout the 20th and 21st centuries. The main aspects are presented from the user’s point of view, with a special stress on the aspects of cognitive psychology, the communication media and ergonomics.
