  • Resumen
    • "Major advances in disciplines such as biology, chemistry and medicine have only been made possible by the development of borosilicate glass. Innovations, in a variety of disciplines, are unimaginable without it," said Dr Frank Heinricht, chairman German glass and ceramics manufacturer, Schott AG.

The use of borosilicate glass in modern neutron research, meanwhile, allows for greater precision and control of neutrons, with borosilicate neutron conductors keeping neutrons - which tend to spread in all directions - on course, according to Dr Christian Schanzer, operations manager at SwissNeutronics AG.

Schott produces around 150,000 tpa borosilicate glass tubes. "If you strung all the tubes we produce in one year together, they would reach 25 times around the equator," the company told IM.
