  • Resumen
    • In Turkey, Ciner Group's Kazan soda project is slated to add 2.5m tpa soda ash capacity to the market by H1 2018, while Iran is in the process of commissioning 200,000-300,000 tpa of new capacity, [Jianzhuang Shang] said. In Uzbekistan, a new soda ash project is also reported to be nearing completion.

Powder-flow soda ash coolers, which can save around 3.1kg coal/tonne of soda ash, and centrifuge second separation of sodium bicarbonate, which can reduce wet heavy alkali moisture by 4-6% and cut steam by 180-300kg/tonne of soda ash, are among the other more environmentally sustainable technologies that have been taken up by the Chinese soda ash industry.

The ammonia-soda, or Solvay process - widely used in China to produce synthetic soda ash - typically generates 10 cubic meters of slag-containing waste liquid tonne of soda ash produced. This waste is comprised mainly of calcium carbonate, which can be recycled for use in the desulphidation of exhaust fumes - as a more effective alternative to quicklime, according to Yue Qi, of the Soda Ash Industry Association.
