    El presente texto aborda de forma interdisciplinar algunos elementos constitutivos del Modelo Biomédico y su narrativa hegemónica. Desde la consideración o no de la esquizofrenia como enfermedad y a partir de la revisión de los criterios de validez y fiabilidad en que se sustentan construcciones disyuntivas como esta, el análisis busca arrojar luz sobre la racionalidad científica de los principales sistemas nosológicos internacionales en que se enmarcan. Atendiendo a la utilidad de las clasificaciones diagnósticas y a diferentes efectos negativos de su uso, se apunta la necesidad de abandonar el recurso a estas catalogaciones en un tipo de actuación socioeducativa que se proponga enfrentar el sufrimiento humano sin detener a las personas en entendimientos cerrados, vacíos de historia y de significados personales.

    This text addresses, in an interdisciplinary way, some of the elements that comprise the Biomedical Model and its hegemonic narrative. Whether schizophrenia can be classified as a disease is still a question of nosology. This analysis seeks to shed light on this debate by examining the rationality of the main international nosological systems and conducting a critical review of the criteria of validity and reliability on which diagnostic categories such as this one are based. Taking into account that such classifications are an inseparable part of the constitutive framework of the Hegemonic Medical Model, assessing the usefulness and negative effects of these classifications and exploring the biomedical narrative in which they are included, a need emerges to abandon the reliance on this type of cataloguing in favour of social and educational action that aims to confront the issue of human suffering.
