  • Resumen
    • This article is a reflection of some of the changes we havewitnessed in pharmacy over the years, including the rise inmedication use and prices and the transformation of howmedicines are paid for in the United States, with growingconcern over pricing transparency. We discuss the complexMedicare Part D prescription drug benefit, how enrolleescan save by comparing plans annually, and the influenceof preferred pharmacies. We review options for medicationassistance other than Part D and share our belief that, although Medicare Part D has dramatically improvedaccess to medicines, more needs to be done to decreaseMedicare’s and individuals’ out-of-pocket spending and, asimportantly, to ensure that medicines are doing more goodthan harm.
