Pharyngeal and laryngeal cancer is one of the most frequent head and neck neoplasms (25%) with 98 % of them corresponding to squamous cell carcinomas. This represents 2% of all the malignant tumors of the body.
A case of a 62 year old male with background of smoking, chronic drinking, hyerlipidemia and chronic liver disease is described. He came to the medical visit due to dysphagia for solid foods, space occupying sensation in the larynx and mouth bleeding.
He was sent to the Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor, where a pharyngeal-laryngoscopy was performed. This test detected a vegetan pharyngeal-laryngeal tumor, whose biopsy showed a squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx.
The CT scan of the larynx and neck confirmed the presence of this tumor. A thoracic-abdominal CT scan and abdominal ultrasound were performed. As an incidental finding, an aortic aneurysm was diagnosed and successfully operated on in Vascular Surgery.
After the patient recovered from the surgery, tumor excision of the pharyngeal-laryngeal tumor was performed by the Ear, Nose and Throat department. Oncology prescribed radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
