Resumen de Ser indígena: el concepto de indigeneidad: una conversación con dos dirigentes Ayoreo

La presente contribución dedicada a explorar lo que significa ser indígena intercala las manifestaciones de dos líderes ayoreo con comentarios interpretativos del autor sobre las mismas. Los líderes no se identifican como “indígenas”; reemplazan ese concepto creado por no- indígenas con “ser Ayoreo”, que describen con una imagen que hace ver una identidad colectiva indivisible que tiene alcances y límites claros. A la misma le contraponen la caracterización de los no- Ayoreo (blancos) expresada en un mito que por una vez le permite al lector no- indígena verse a sí mismo a través de la mirada de un “otro” externo a su cultura. En ella, habla un observador indígena que está libre de la intención de dominar, típica para el hombre blanco y que somete al “otro diverso” con la ayuda de los términos y conceptos de su propio mundo. Su observación es de una curiosidad severa, sobria, implacable y sin compasión.

This contribution dedicated to explore what it means to be indigenous, interweaves the expressions of two Ayoreo leaders with interpretative comments from the author on them. Leaders do not identify themselves as “indigenous”; they replace that concept created by non-Indigenous with “being Ayoreo”, which they describe with an image that shows an indivisible collective identity that has clear finality and limits. It is opposed by the characterization of non-Ayoreo (whites), expressed in a myth that for once allows the non-indigenous reader to see himself through the look of an “other” external to his culture. In it, there is an indigenous observer who is free from the intention to dominate, typical for the white man and who submits the “other different” with the help of the terms and concepts of his own world. His observation is of a severe curiosity, sober, implacable and without compassion.
