    Il mollusco di origine asiatica Corbicula fluminea (O.F. Müller, 1774), già segnalato in Italia per i fiumi Po e Brenta (FABBRI & LANDI, 1999), è stato raccolto vivente per la prima volta nelle acque del lago di Garda.Sino ad oggi sembra aver colonizzato solo un modesto tratto di costa nel comune di Manerba del Garda(provincia di Brescia). Vengono registrate le misure medie e massime raggiunte dagli esemplari studiati e la densità massima stimata per la nuova stazione. Vengono ipotizzate le possibili cause della improvvisa comparsa del nuovo ospite e si sottolinea il rischio di una futura esplosione demografica che potrebbe mettere a repentaglio gli equilibri del bacino e minacciare la fauna autoctona.

    The Asiatic clam Corbicula fluminea (O.F. Müller, 1774), recently reported in Italy from the Po and Brenta Rivers (FABBRI & LANDI, 1999), was found to live, on February 2002, also in the Garda Lake (Manerba del Garda, Brescia province, North Italy). The species dwells into the shallow (30 cm to 1.5 metres) sandy gravel bottoms of the lake, where it can reach a maximum density value of about 50 specimens/m2. The average recorded size is of 20 mm in length, 19 mm in height and 13 mm of width (n = 100); the maximum recorded size is of 24 mm in length, 22 mm in height and 19 mm of width. The causes of the introduction of C. fluminea in the lake’s waters are still not known. However, since it was found close to a site of intense human activities, where boats are lowered, it could have been passively introduced through this way.Moreover, the great part of turists coming at the Garda Lake is from North Europe, an area where the species is well established. In a future, if the species will undergo a demographic burst, this could threaten the autochtonous fauna, as already happened in the same lake, at the end of the ‘60s, when the bivalve Dreissena polymorpha (Pallas, 1754) was accidentally introduced.
