  Na sequência da diversificação dos estudantes internacionais no Instituto Politécnico da Guarda , o grupo da Rede de Ensino Superior de Mediação Intercultural do IPG detetou problemas designadamente entre os provenientes dos Países Africanos de Língua Oficial Portuguesa. Seguindo os princípios teóricos de mediação intercultural (Romero, 2010) – a igualdade, a diferença e a interação positiva – foi aplicado um questionário que revelou problemas de ordem pessoal, situacional e cultural. Para reforçar uma integração académica e social, foram aplicados instrumentos adequados à análise das situações e foram tomadas medidas, tal como a criação do Gabinete de Mediação Intercultural.

  The increasing diversification of the international students at the Polytechnic of Guarda (IPG) has revealed problems associatedspecifically withthe students from the Portuguese-Speaking African Countries (PALOP), which has warranted an action response from the group of researchers of the Higher Education Network for Intercultural Mediation(RESMI). Applying the principles of equality, difference, and positive interaction defined for Intercultural Mediation (Romero, 2010), the researchers distributed a questionnaire that, in turn, revealed not only personal difficulties but also problems that can be understood as situational and cultural. To reinforce a more comprehensive and advantageous integration –both academically and socially –appropriate instruments for analysis were applied to the problems so that decisions could be made, one of which was the creation of an Office for Intercultural Mediation.
