    Este artículo tiene por objetivo rastrear los orígenes del debate sobre el matrimonio igualitario en Costa Rica mediante el análisis de artículos de periódico. Se hace énfasis en el inicio de la discusión en la década de los 90, en las coyunturas políticas de inicios del siglo xxi y en la manera en que los diferentes actores sociales han participado en el intercambio de opiniones y argumentos en contra o a favor. El posicionamiento del matrimonio como eje central de la agenda política es producto de un proceso histórico influenciado por la política transnacional.

    The main objective of this article is to trace the origins of the debate on equal marriage in Costa Rica by analyzing newspaper articles. An emphasis is made on the beginning of the discussion in the 90, in the political situations of early twenty-first century and the manner in which different social actors have participated in the exchange of views and arguments against or in favor. The positioning of marriage as the core of the political agenda is the product of a historical process influenced by transnational policy.
