    Con la finalidad de profundizar en las fortalezas y debilidades de Discovery Tools (DTs) y OPACs se han seleccionado cinco universidades españolas y portuguesas que cumplen con los siguientes requisitos: 1) impartir estudios de Información y Documentación, dado que nuestra pertenencia a esta área científica facilita el juicio sobre la pertinencia de los resultados hallados y, 2) implementar diferentes herra-mientas de descubrimiento. Partiendo de la realización de varias búsquedas temáticas y por autores, el objetivo general de este trabajo se cifra en indagar sobre la eficacia del proceso de búsqueda y la pertinencia de los resultados utilizando ambas herramientas. Los objetivos específicos planteados son: determinar la exhaustividad de los resultados pertinentes ofrecidos en la consulta paralela de OPACs y DTs; analizar dichos resultados; identificar las funcionalidades de filtro y su ordenación en los DTs y en los OPACs; determinar la facilidad para refinar los resul-tados y/o ampliar la búsqueda haciendo uso de facetas, índices o búsqueda avanzada; y valorar la pre-sencia y utilidad de las recomendaciones de docu-mentos relacionados y de las contribuciones/valoraciones de los usuarios en forma de etiquetas o tags, comentarios y puntuaciones.

    In order to learn more about the strengths and weaknesses of Discovery Tools (DTs) and OPACs, we selected five universities from Portugal and Spain which met the following requirements: 1) they taught Library and Information Studies, since our expertise in this scientific field would enable us to determine the relevance of the results retrieved, and 2) they had implemented different tools. We conducted several subject and author searches in both tools, with the overall objective of exploring the efficiency of the search process and the relevance of the results retrieved when using each tool. The specific objectives were: to determine the comprehensiveness of the relevant results retrieved in a parallel search of OPACs and discovery tools; to analyse these results; to identify the filter functions for selection and how they were organized in DTs and OPACs; to determine the ease with which the results could be refined and/or the search could be widened by making use of facets, indexes, or advanced search features; and to assess the implementation and usefulness of recommendations of related documents and user opinions/reviews in the form of tags, comments and ratings.
