  Frente a la opinión compartida por la mayoría de los historiadores y antropólogos que se han ocupado del legendario reino bubi de Riabba en Fernando Poo, aceptando que fue un Gobierno nativo centralizado de toda la isla (un Estado o, cuando menos, una poderosa jefatura hereditaria), este artículo expone un conjunto de informaciones y análisis que dan pie a la fundada sospecha de que nunca fue así y de que esa leyenda fue elaborada por los colonizadores fernandinos y españoles de los bubis más que por los propios bubis.

  Most historians and anthropologists who have studied the legendary Bubi Kingdom of Riabba in Fernando Po have assumed that it possessed a native-led centralized government, extended its authority throughout the island, and took the form of a state or, in the very least, a powerful hereditary chiefdom. In contrast to this prevailing opinion, this essay demonstrates that this was never the case. Interestingly, this legend was elaborated by Fernandinian and Spanish colonizers of the Bubis to a greater extent than the Bubis themselves.
