    Der Artikel rekonstruiert den harten Kern von Shmuel N. Eisenstadtsallgemeiner Soziologie, wie er sie in der Untersuchung der Beziehung zwischenHandeln (Kreativität) und Struktur sowie zwischen Kultur und Sozialstrukturdurchgeführt hat. Er ordnet seine Untersuchung in dem von ihm sogenannten„semantischen Map“ als eine evolutionäre Universalie des „konstitutiven basalenBezugrahmen“ der Erforschung der sozio-strukturellen Evolution an. DerAnspruch Eisenstadts geht dahin, ihn für die Analyse „aller Gesellschaften“anzuwenden. Aus seiner Sicht betrifft das: 1. Das existenzielle Problem dieDefinition der kosmologischen Ordnung und die Beziehung zur Welt und 2. dieErzeugung von Konflikten und Spannungen im Zuge der Strukturierung dessozialen Austauschs durch die Definition der kosmologischen Ordnung undihrer symbolischen Konstruktion. Die grundlegenden semantischen Maps legendas zentrale Problem der menschlichen und der sozialen Existenz, dieSpezifikation ihrer Lösungen und die Beziehung zu den grundlegendenAnnahmen über die sozialen Ordnung fest. Das Semantic Map und der Kampfum die Verteilung von Ressourcen ist der forschungsprogramatischeBezugsrahmen seiner Reformulierung der Modernisierungstheorie und derKritik an der klassischen Modernisierungstheorie als einer Konvergenztheorie.Eisenstadts Forschungsprogramm der Multiple Modernities ist vor diesemHintergrund zu interpretieren. Der Artikel wird mit einer Modifikation seinesAnsatzes durch eine mitgliedschaftstheoretische Reinterpretation abgeschlossen.

    The article reconstructs the hard core of Shmuel N. Eisenstadt’s general sociology. This is his analysis of the relationship between agency (creativity) and structure and culture and social structure. Eisenstadt classifying these relationships within the “semantic map” as an evolutionary universal of the “constitutive basic frame of reference” of the research of socio-structural evolution. His claim is to apply this “frame of reference” to the analysis of “all societies”. This refers to 1. the existential problem of the definition of cosmological order und the relationship to the world, and 2. the generation of conflicts, and social tensions within the social exchange and the definition of the cosmological order and its symbolic construction. The basic semantic map specifies the main problems of human and social existence, the specification of their solutions, and the relationship to the basic assumption of the social order.

    The semantic map and the fight about the flux and distribution of resources is the frame of reference of the renewing of the theory of modernization and the critique on the classical theory of modernization as a convergence theory.

    Eisenstadt’s research program of the multiple modernities is to interpret against this background. The article concludes with the modification of Eisenstadt’s account from a sociology of membership.
