    Es un lugar común afirmar que el catolicismo argentino, al igual que otros de América Latina, es fuertemente tributario de la influencia romana, así como también de la hispánica —en este último caso, en especial, luego del “desastre”de 1898—. Sería fútil discutir esta premisa: el carácter romano e hispánico del catolicismo argentino es una verdad tan autoevidente que es casi natural vincular entre sí estos términos y, a su vez, añadirles sin cortocircuito alguno elingrediente del nacionalismo. Sin embargo, intentaremos mostrar que las cosas fueron menos lineales, en especial por el influjo de otros polos católicos con los que los católicos argentinos tejieron estrechos vínculos: a saber, el catolicismofrancés. Se reconstruyen sus vínculos con la intelectualidad francesa para poner en valor este otro polo de la cultura católica de entreguerras y para mostrar, también, que el catolicismo argentino tenía, en suma, una matriz fuertemente europeizante en ese período.

    It is very common to highlight that argentine Catholicism, as with many other examples in Latin America, has deep roots linked with Spanish history —specially, after 1898 “disaster”—, not only with Rome or papal authority. It is useless to discuss this premise: the Roman and Hispanic character of Argentine Catholicism is a self-evident truth, and that it is almost natural to link them as well as to add a nationalist ingredient. Nevertheless, we shall show that the relation it is not linear, because there have been many other Catholic poles of thought with which Argentine Catholics were related: such as French Catholicism.

    We analyze its links with French Catholic intellectuals in order to demonstrate that Argentine Catholicism has had an Eurocentric core at the beginning of the 20th century.
