  • Islam, as a political doctrine, has alternated between periods of expansion and others of regression. The Muslims have always had to fight to defend their ideological integrity, and they have not always done so in a peaceful way. The history ofAlgeria is a good example. The media discuss it almost daily in a tone which ranges from macabre to mocking. The ignorance of Islam which has always characterized our country has caused many journalists to try to make Iran into a crib of fundamentalists. They lump together the Hamas of Mahfud Nahnah and the Palestinian Hamas led by Yassir Arafat, the Islamic Salvation Front of Abassi Madani and the Turkish Islamist party of Necettin Erbakan. This article seeks to shed a little light in the darkness of ignorance and lack of concern.
