A partir de los noventa, la juventud se convierte en una categoría notoria en el léxico de organizaciones locales e internacionales que trabajan en el mundo árabe. El giro es no solo teórico sino también práctico, pues se han creado ministerios y estrategias nacionales para la juventud, se han publicado numerosos informes y se han puesto en marcha diversas iniciativas sobre la situación de la juventud árabe. Pero ¿cómo se presenta a la juventud en estos documentos y organizaciones? ¿Hay una sola clase de juventud? ¿Cuál es la función retórica, social y política de la juventud en este discurso? El artículo intenta responder a estas preguntas y definir el papel que juega la economía política en este rediseño de prioridades.

In the nineteen-nineties, young people became conspicuous in the lexicon of local and international organisations working in the Arab world. This shift is both theoretical and practical, for ministries and national strategies have been created for young people, numerous reports have been published, and different initiatives on the situation of Arab youths have been set up. Yet how are young people presented in these documents and organisations? Is there just one type of youth? What is the rhetorical, social and political role of young people in this discourse? This article aims to offer answers to these questions and define the role played by the political economy is the redesign of priorities.
