  • Approaching television violence requires a conceptual and methodological review of the research dedicated to this topic, a review which obliges us to redefine the concept of violence itself and to observe certain" a priori" views of social criticism of the mass media; however, it is in the world of the viewer where, in the end, any form of representation takes on meaning. For this reason it is essential to incorporate the influence of individual experiences and the cultural and social environment of the viewer in research on the social impact of television violence and to emphasize the reponsibility of the receptors as active agents in the ethical construction of the media.
