  • Resumen
    • This paper publishes the letters sent by the Hispanic and Romance philologist Leo Spitzer to the dialectologist and initiator of the Diccionari català - valencià - balear (DCVB) Antoni M. Alcover. The correspondence consists of 24 letters, mostly written in German, except for two letters, which are in French. The writings have the purpose, on the one hand, of requesting information on aspects related to the etymology of Catalan words; and, on the other, of presenting Spitzer’s opinions regarding many words and contributing to their etymology . The aim is to look for their origin and evolution, based on the ability to relate terms of different languages. The epistolary begins with the first letter that Spitzer sent to Alcover, dated October 24, 1913, which, because of the content, seems to respond to an earlier one w ritten by the Mallorcan dialectologist; and it ends with Spitzer’s postcard of April 12, 1930, which apparently did not get any response.
