    This article is a lecture leaflet on the occasion of the III Annual Conference of Law and Theology, Theology, Law and University, organized by the International Chair “Innocent III” at the Catholic University of San Antonio (Murcia, May 19, 2017). As a historian of law I would like to highlight the contribution that, at a specific historical moment, Theology rendered to the birth and development of the ius publicum ecclesiasticum.
