  Este artículo analiza los primeros años del Instituto de Educación Hotelera creado en la administración del Presidente Carlos Ibáñez del Campo (1927-1931). El objetivo es comprender la importancia que se le asignó al turismo como actividad económica y nuevo sector productivo del país, junto a la necesidad de profesionalizar la oferta de servicios. Para ello se hará uso de diferentes discursos de las autoridades del periodo, decretos que dieron forma al Instituto, así como de una lectura sistemática del órgano de difusión del Departamento de Turismo del Ministerio de Fomento, denominado Boletín de Informaciones

  The Institute of Hotel Training of Chile. A Pioneering Experience of Teaching in the Hospitality Field. This article analyzes the first years of the Institute of Hotel Training created in the administration of President Carlos Ibáñez del Campo (1927-1931). The objective is to understand the importance that was assigned to tourism as an economic activity and new productive sector of the country, together with the need to professionalize the service offer. For this we will use different speeches of the authorities of the period, decrees that shaped the Institute, as well as a systematic reading of the organ of diffusion of the Department of Tourism of the Ministry of Development, titled Bulletin of Information
