Resumen de Eventos culturales y alojamiento de lujo: el caso de la ciudad de Guanajuato, México

  La ciudad de Guanajuato en México es un destino turístico reconocido por su atractivo cultural que llama a turistas nacionales de diversas partes del país. El conocimiento sobre la selección específica de alojamiento por parte de turistas culturales es aún poco precisa, por lo que el presente estudio pretende contribuir de manera cuantitativa a su esclarecimiento al explorar la correlación entre la ocupación hotelera en la ciudad de Guanajuato y el número de turistas nacionales que viajan al destino para asistir a eventos culturales. Se encontró una correlación estadísticamente significativa entre este segmento de turistas y la ocupación de hoteles de lujo, sugiriendo que los turistas que viajan a Guanajuato para ir a un evento cultural seleccionan un hotel de lujo para pernoctar. Con esta información se procedió a explorar cambios estructurales en la ocupación de cuartos de hoteles de lujo de la ciudad durante Julio 2003 a Octubre 2016. Con el paquete Strucchange para el software R se identificaron tres puntos de quiebre y se observó que éstos están relacionados, en su mayoría, con aumentos en la ocupación hotelera del segmento de lujo; lo que sugiere que están vinculados con fortalecimiento en el sector turismo a nivel estatal gracias a la asignación de presupuesto extraordinario, además del respaldo de contar con el distintivo de ser un destino confiable

  Cultural Events and Luxury Accommodation. The Case of the City of Guanajuato, México. The city of Guanajuato in Mexico is a tourist destination recognized by its cultural attractiveness that call national tourists from all over the country; the knowledge about the selection of lodging from cultural tourists is yet imprecise, that is the reason why this study seek to contribute, in a quantitative way, to elucidate this subject. The first step was to explore if there was a significant correlation between hotel occupancy in Guanajuato, México and the amount of national tourists that attend to cultural events in the destination. It was found that there is a statistical significant correlation between this tourist segment and five- star hotel occupancy, suggesting that tourists whom travel to Guanajuato city for a cultural event choose luxury accommodation. With this information the second interest of the study was to explore structural changes in Guanajuato´s five-star hotel occupancy for a period of July 2013 to October 2016. With Strucchange package from R software three break points were identified and It was identified that these break points were related, in the majority of the cases, with higher luxury hotel occupancy, this suggest they are link to a strengthening of the state tourism sector, thanks to the extraordinary budget allocation in addition to the badge of being a reliable destination.
