This work will examine didactic works from the nineteenth century specifically published for teaching Spanish to speakers of Italian aiming to better understand the status of teaching Spanish in this context. Although some studies on the history of teaching Spanish to foreigners already exist, they are still scarce especially when looking at the general and specific contributions of different authors from this period, and further analyzing these contributions within the Italian context. Through an analysis of representative works from this time period, our study will aim to answer several questions, such as: what works were published in this period and how many were there, which of these works are new editions, later editions or reprints, and what is the importance of each work, its reach, structures, influences, etc.
