Resumen de Hyperopia and hyperopic astigmatism correction with the SCHWIND ESIRIS: 1-year results

María Clara Arbelaez, Camila Vidal, Samuel Arba Mosquera

  • PURPOSE: To evaluate safety, predictability and efficacy of the Aberration-Free Profiles implemented in the SCHWIND CAM software platform for Hyperopic LASIK.

    SETTINGS: Private practice.

METHODS: At one-year follow-up, 80 eyes with preoperative hyperopia or hyperopic astigmatism were retrospectively analysed. Standard examinations were performed.

Aberration-Free aspheric treatments were planned with Custom Ablation Manager software and ablations performed using the SCHWIND ESIRIS flying-spot excimer laser system (both SCHWIND eye-tech-solutions). LASIK flaps were created using a CarriazoPendular microkeratome (SCHWIND eye-tech-solutions) in all cases. Clinical outcomes were evaluated in terms of predictability, refractive outcome, and safety.

RESULTS: At one year, 81% of eyes achieved ≥20/25 UCVA and 19% achieved ≥20/16 UCVA. 59% of eyes were within ±0.25D of defocus and 95% within ±0.50D. Mean spherical equivalent was +0.04±0.42D and 0.45±0.35D for the astigmatism. 38% of eyes improved BSCVA vs. only 22% loosing one line of BSCVA. Predictability slope for refraction was 0.94 and intercept +0.02 D.

CONCLUSIONS: LASIK for hyperopia and hyperopic astigmatism with SCHWIND ESIRIS yields superior visual outcomes. Preoperative refractions were postoperatively reduced to subclinical values.
