  • Resumen
    • The interests of veterinary history and the history of science have been converging during the past 25 years due to some common intellectual factors. Focusing on literature published in English, this paper will discuss three international intellectual factors that bridge the gap between veterinary history and the history of the biomedical sciences. First, the historical subfield of “environmental history” asserts that animals (and the people who work with animals) are important subjects for historical studies. Second, veterinarians and science historians share an interest in investigating the history of scientific practices. Third, topics such as the history of diseases encourage us to explore global circulations of microorganisms, animals, people, and ideas. These intellectual trends have brought scholars closer together and encouraged the development of veterinary history in the global context. I conclude by asserting that studies of animal health make crucial contributions to broader histories.
