  • Resumen
    • The present update focus on the 4th generation of the Crystalens intraocular lens (IOL) for presbyopia correction. The new generation of the Crystalens, named Crystalens HD, has an additional diopter of power in the central 1.5 millimeters, while the base optic and the add are spherical. The Crystalens HD design creates a blended, bispheric, monofocal accommodating lens. It is designed to deliver superior quality of vision across the full range of vision – near, intermediate and distance. The working principle behind the Crystalens HD is PERLA (pupils equal react to light and accommodation). This means that as the pupil constricts with accommodation and the bright lighting usually associated with reading the Crystalens HD shifts towards a more minus refraction, enhancing the patient’s near vision. The US FDA clinical trial of the Crystalens HD, 55% of patients had an uncorrected near visual acuity of J1 after implantation, 80% J2, and 100% were J3. As a result, the Crystalens HD provides patients with better quality of vision – which means less dysphotopsia, halo or glares, color distortion or a reduction in contrast sensitivity – compared to diffractive or refractive multifocal IOL designs. With its blended bispheric monofocal design, with the Crystalens HD we are able to offer patients reduced dependence on spectacles while providing superior vision at all distances
