Mit dem Rückgriff auf die Theorie Paul Ricœurs von „Zeit und Erzählung“ lassen sich die Kinoszenen im „Zauberberg“ im Hinblick auf die übergreifende Zeit-Poetik des Romans lesen. Greifen wiederum, wenn sich das Zeit-Erzählen in Literatur und Film so ähnelt, Ricœurs Konzepte auch in Bezug auf das Kino? Das soll eine Analyse der Zeitdarstellung in Stanley Kubricks „The Shining“ zeigen, die dort nicht nur überraschende Parallelen zum „Zauberberg“ eruiert, sondern auch eine ausgeklügelte Zeit-Poetik im Sinne Ricœurs vorfindet

With recourse to Paul Ricœur’s theory of “Time and Narrative”, the cinema scenes in “Der Zauberberg” (‘The Magic Mountain’) can be understood in the context of the overarching poetics of time in the novel. But if the narration of time in literature and film are similar, are Ricour’s concepts also valid with reference to the cinema? This question is answered by an analysis of the representation of time in Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining”, which not only uncovers surprising parallels to the “Magic Mountain” in this film, but also finds a sophisticated poetics of time in accordance with Ricœur’s theory.
