    La Lanza de San Baltazar fue el primer periódico protestante en la Guadalajara del siglo XIX, iniciando en 1873. Si bien existen datos del inicio del protestantismo jalisciense, no así del periódico y su relación con los inicios de las misiones protestantes. Desde una metodología historiográfica, con breves pautas de análisis de contenido, este trabajo tiene como objetivo revelar el panorama histórico del contexto, así como el origen del texto, junto con algunas de sus formas discursivas. Al ser ampliamente combativo y belicoso en su lenguaje, el texto sirve como punto de partida para el análisis histórico del movimiento religioso en una entidad con fuerte arraigo católico.

    The Lanza de San Baltazar was the first periodic Protestant in Guadalajara of the 19ht century, starting in 1873. While there are data frotm the beginning of Jalisco Protestantism, not of the newspaper and its relationship with the beggnings of the Protestant missions. From a historiographical methodology, with short patterns for content analysis, this work aims to reveal the historical panorama of the context, as well as the origin of the text, along wiht some of its discursive forms. Being largely combative and warlike in their language, the text serves as a starting point for historical analysis religious movement in an entity with strong Catholic roots.
