  En este artículo se trata de relacionar el gran cambio tecnológico y sus efectos en las esferas productiva, económica, social y política con las concepciones que tenemos sobre la estructura de edades y sobre la concepción de la vejez. Defendemos que la actual conceptualización hegemónica sobre el hacerse mayor tiene un alto nivel de obsolescencia ya que se fundamenta en lo que fue la sociedad industrial y sus estructuras sociales y productivas, marcadas por grandes continuidades y colectivos sociales notablemente homogéneos. La nueva realidad en la que estamos entrando velozmente nos obliga a repensar qué significa hoy hacerse mayor, aportándose aquí algunos elementos clave para ello.

  In this article we try to relate the great technological change and its effects in the productive, economic, social and political spheres with the conceptions we have about the structure of ages and about the conception of old age. We defend that the current hegemonic conceptualization of becoming older has a high level of obsolescence since it is based on what industrial society was and its social and productive structures, marked by great continuities and social collectives remarkably homogeneous. The new reality in which we are entering in a very fast way forces us to rethink what it means ageing today, contributing here with some key elements for it.Keywords: aging, citizenship, diversity, autonomy, equality.
