Se analiza la relación entre arte y belleza en la modernidad, a partir del estilo pictórico de Goya y de la ruptura que representa en la concepción estética, cuando adecua el contenido monstruoso a la forma monstruosa. En el texto se reflexiona sobre la significación que tienen para el pintor las catorce obras de la serie de las Pinturas Negras que cubrían las paredes de los dos salones de la "Quinta del Sordo", y sobre su relación íntima con ellas como autor-espectador permanente. La serie de las pinturas negras representa un punto de no retorno en la pintura y un viaje a las profundidades del infierno humano.

This paper analyzes the relation between art and beauty in modern times, starting from Goya's style of painting and the breach in aesthetic conceptions represented by his rendering of monstruous content in monstruous form. The text also reflects on the meaning for the painter of the fourteen works of art in the "black" series that covered the walls of two rooms in the "Quinta del Sordo" and on his intimate relationship to them as permanent author-spectator. The series of "black" paintings represents a point of no return in painting and a journey to the depths of human hell.
