    A partir de las fuentes documentales y gráficas y de las numerosas piezas conservadas, casi íntegramente, en los joyeros marianos que desde el siglo XVI, pero sobre todo desde mediados de la centuria siguiente, se conformaron en torno a las principales devociones isleñas, abordamos un primer análisis en su conjunto de la joya antigua o histórica en Canarias: el origen y la formación de estas colecciones; su valor y su función social, connotativa y antropológica; la producción insular y las importaciones de los diferentes centros españoles, europeos o asiáticos, unido a la constante llegada de obras del Nuevo Mundo; al mismo tiempo, sus características formales y gemológicas a través de las tipologías representadas. Debido a su extensión, dividiremos su estudio en dos partes: la joya religiosa y la joya civil.

    Taking into account the documentary and graphical sources as well as the numerous pieces preserved, almost entirely, in the Marian jewelers that were formed according to the main island devotions from the 16th century onwards, but especially since the middle of the next century, we approach a first analysis of the ancient or historical jewel in the Canary Islands: the origin and formation of these collections; its value and social function, connotative and anthropological; the insular production and imports from different Spanish Centers, European or Asian, linked to the constant arrival of works from the New World; while their formal and gemological characteristics through the various represented characteristics. Due to its length, we´ll divide the study into two parts: Firstly the religious jewel and on the other hand, the civil jewel.
