En la medina de Fez2 los aḍriḥḍ aḍ han modificado la estructura geográfica de ésta. Las zawāyā3 también conforman considerablemente este espacio, y distintas manifestaciones culturales y artísticas se realizan con motivo de los distintos festivales en el mismo. El estatus de la música y sus intérpretes, así como los instrumentos musicales empleados para su interpretación, se modifican según la finalidad y el espacio donde se dan. Todo ello conforma un escenario artístico, cultural, intelectual y religioso, donde se han encontrado el misticismo y grandes personalidades espirituales.
