    El fandango, entendido como espacio célebre en el centro occidente de México y en la costa del Pacífico, tiene su antecedente en el mitote (baile) prehispánico. Naturalizado en la época colonial de la Nueva España, se convirtió en sinónimo de mariache o mariachi ya en la vida nacional mexicana. Para una mejor comprensión se describen escenas festivas de la región mexicana mencionada y de Estados Unidos, y se sigue la ruta costeña que dinamizó la fiebre del oro californiano a partir de 1849.

    The fandango, understood as a space of celebration in central western Mexico and on the Pacific coast, has antecedents in the Prehispanic mitotl (mitote, dance). It received its naturalization papers during the epoch of colonial New Spain, especially in the eighteenth century; at the same time it became a synonym of the mariache or mariachi in Mexican national life. In this sense, and in order to clearly explain, we will follow the central western route described above, and the coastal route given impetus by the attraction of the California Gold Rush following 1849.
